Powerpoint Review Of Risky Business

What I liked
• House's rant against patriotism. Extra points for mention of Uganda. Reminded me why I watch this show at all.
• House grabbing Foreman's butt and the latter's lack of reaction, showing that sexual harassment isn't about sex but power.
• House helping Parks. Wilson helping Parks.
• Wilson seeing through House's motives and telling him so.
• Park asking Wilson about House.
• Park keeping her job.
• House speaking Mandarin.
• House making Cousin Itt joke.
• Andrews being wrong.
• No more ortho. I hated the noise.
What I didn't like
• The superficial treatment of the whole social issue.
• Park having to excuse and humiliate herself (instead of defending her actions rationally) in order to keep her job.
• Adams making House do extra clinic.
• Adams criticizing the POTW then pressuring his daughter.
• Adams smashing ortho. I don't accept "but X told me to" as an excuse even from my nine-years-old.
• Adams.
What I didn't get
• House stealing fron Wilson.
• House making Adams smash ortho.
I tried to fix these in a fic.

Park having to excuse and humiliate herself (instead of defending her actions rationally) in order to keep her job.
Yes, didn't like that myself. She had to react emotionally (like a woman you see). Personally I think in the real world that the whole thing would have been swept under the carpet, sexual harrassment case dropped if assault case dropped.
Also I wonder if *Foreman's* little hearing was in the same format (five doctors sitting in an intimadory behind a long table, defendant sitting on a chair in front of them all).
Adams making House do extra clinic.

• Adams.
So, basically just Adams then :) I didn't mind the extra clinic hours (although its silly, why would you want House anywhere near the clinic - its a law suit waiting to happen) but yeah Adams lecturing patient/daughter is just...no. And you know how I feel about the smashed up Ortho lab....
House stealing fron Wilson
I'm sort of neutral on that one - it's a very House thing to do, although it does show he still takes Wilson for granted, so no progress there. I thought the stealing of the laser-whatever-it-was was stupid though.

Date: 2011-11-06 12:52 pm (UTC)Low self-esteem can be brought on by exposure to one's relatives. Nice clothes and anger… Classic symptoms. Family gathering. You were late the other day 'cause you were having breakfast with Grammy Adams or Cousin Itt. And she was nagging you about finding a husband.

Of course not. Nothing of the kind happened to Andrews either. What's worse, that's RL (and as you said, normally Park would be asked to drop her charges and all would be swept under the carpet).
She had to react emotionally (like a woman you see).
Yes. I think one could see the fume out of my ears in most of Northwest Europe, but of course not in Australia :).
I thought the stealing of the laser-whatever-it-was was stupid though.
I figured out he just used it as pawn to get cash. It would be possible in Italy, if you know the right people, I'm sure. I just "misheard" the value. I'd expect House knows several shady characters.
Stealing from Wilson would normally be okay, but now it felt so wrong. As you remarked over at writerdot's, Wilson once gave him exactly the same amount just by him asking. The writers seem to have no clue about what happened in previous seasons. Plus, stealing and then giving back, thus giving yourself away? WTF? It's not stealing in my book, just stupid.
I did like the prank, though, because it had a nice sense of symmetry: light preventing orthodoc from working just like sound prevents House from working.

I know right! She's an adult. She could have said no. As cool as it was, yeah, that irritated me too.

Date: 2011-11-06 06:41 pm (UTC)Possibly as a result, destroying medical equipment makes me completely queasy. I can see how it would be different for those of you used to plenty.
ETA 1) Thank you for your comment and mostly 2) what a cool icon! Is it from the last episode?

Date: 2011-11-06 07:50 pm (UTC)My God. That is horrible. Now, I'm even more annoyed by it on your behalf.
I can see how it would be different for those of you used to plenty.
I am used to having it. But, I also have a chronic medical condition, so destroying hospital equipment doesn't sit well with me either. :-)

You're most welcome, hon! I love discussions like these. And yes, my icon is from the last episode. I was making screencaps, and managed to get this one manually. I was trying to get them looking at each other in that scene with them at the end, and this (though you can't see it) was as close as I could get. Wilson looked so lovely that I made an icon from it. lol. If you'd like, I can put the pic and icon up on my journal and you can take them. :-)

I usually don't take icons, but this one is so cute. Can I take it and maybe add a bit of text? You don't need to put it anywhere, I can steal directly from here :).

Date: 2011-11-06 12:50 pm (UTC)But yeah, I'm not liking Adams at all. I did in the prison, but at the same time, I liked that episode cos it was isolated like the Mayfield opener. I think if the nice blonde doctor from Mayfield for eg. came to work in PTTH I'd begin to hate her too. Bring back Nolan, I say! He'll patch House's wee sanity right up.

Date: 2011-11-06 06:44 pm (UTC)What a nice sentence. That's certainly a very human desire... to get back at someone, especially when the someone goes on your nerves although they didn't do anything wrong. Or if it's not so human, well, at least it's two of us :).
I think I was upset only because it was medical equipment - I'd probably have reacted differently for a car or so.
Cool parallel between Adams and the Mayfield doctor. Totally agree.

[I just hope they'll show us more Wilson in the future, that icon of yours is breathtaking.

Date: 2011-11-06 03:28 pm (UTC)I'm really disliking Adams. David Shore has a thing for skinny prissy judgemental brunettes. I accepted House arranging the smashing of the equipment because House said he'd paid for it and he was clearly getting back at Ortho, but it was still stupid. A waste as you said, and SHE wasn't angry at Ortho - what was HER motivation? If getting divorced entitled a person to destroy property our cities would look like post-bomb Hirosima. But House has wantonly destroyed hospital equipment before and never been punished for it. I think we're supposed to find it charming or something.
Park, I thought just what Wilson expositioned - House deliberately rattled her during her hearing so she WOULD react emotionally and the committee would take pity on her. I can understand her reacting that way, she's very young and was under enormous stress. And the board WOULD pity her for blithering like that. I can name TWO criminal cases where a woman indisputably committed cold-blooded murder and got off because she whimpered on the stand that didn't mean it, look how girly and helpless I am, pity me.

LMAO, I couldn't have said it better. (Bonus useless info: divorce became legal in Italy in the 70s.)
I can name TWO criminal cases (...) look how girly and helpless I am
That's exactly what drives me nuts.
I think I should have said much more clearly that I totally get Park: I once did precisely the same, to the point of melting in tears in front of the dean of my college after my rational argument didn't work - and the tears did work. I was happy at having obtained what I wanted but pissed as hell to the way I had achieved it./tmi

Date: 2011-11-06 10:08 pm (UTC)(nods) I haven't yet but I've come close on several occasions. I've always managed to prevent the meltdown until I was alone. I'd like to claim I have great self-control, but it was just fortunate circumstances.

Date: 2011-11-06 10:40 pm (UTC)[Of course my fellow students who benefited like me from the decision, all male, were too scared to talk to the Dean and just sent me to "argue for all of us". Spineless cowards.]
I think every woman has to fight the temptation to use this techniques, and men just don't.

Date: 2011-11-07 05:50 am (UTC)OT You're Canadian! That's why you didn't mind the dissing of patriotism :).
I checked your profile because you pointed out Atwood is Canadian. It's a European myth that US citizens are drilled into patriotism from childhood and Canadians aren't.
