I thought it was more to do with the whole getting back at Ortho guy (even though he didn't do anything wrong). What a nice sentence. That's certainly a very human desire... to get back at someone, especially when the someone goes on your nerves although they didn't do anything wrong. Or if it's not so human, well, at least it's two of us :).
I think I was upset only because it was medical equipment - I'd probably have reacted differently for a car or so.
Cool parallel between Adams and the Mayfield doctor. Totally agree.
