Summary: Wilson and his brother enjoy the fireworks together. A July 4th drabble for camp sick_wilson.

They sat together in the garden like they used to, the house dark, Independence Day fireworks exploding all around them. As they did as kids, they talked by tracing letters on each other's palms, undisturbed by the noise and the intermittent darkness.

"I wish Danny was here with us."

"Me too."

When he heard of House’s overdose death in some tropical paradise, James had first gotten drunk, then shot himself. Now he was blind, deaf and wheelchair-bound. And stubborn enough to finish what he started.

Tomorrow they would fly to Switzerland together, and Jonathan would bring the ashes back.

Well that was depressing...I guess if you're going to shoot yourself you should do the job properly so you don't end up like that...

Probably only PG-13, I don't know if suicide is considered as needing a higher rating, but it probably should be warned for specifically.

(I have to smile a little at blacking out the spoiler warning for character death but having a death!fic tag in plain sight...one of the problems with tagging things I guess:)

Sorry, my dark stuff tends to be very dark (I used to write only deathfics, so long as I keep the humor/smut/fluff quota above 50% I'm proud of myself).

I think Jonathan is very unhappy, but agrees that the life quality James could have now is very limited. And I once wanted a Jonathan-positive fic after all those where he's depicted negatively.

And yes, in a sense there's a subdued happiness - I think Wilson has agreed to depart July 5th so as to have one last 4th of July together, and Jonathan has sent his wife and kids to the in-laws.
