It's hard not to notice how gay Michelangelo is once you grow up in a town full of replicas of the David. The original is breathtaking: a love declaration to the male body in marmor. Michelangelo's statues and pictures of undressed women (few as they are) are all very, very masculine. And his Jesus, whether in marmor as in the statue, or painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, is always hot.
